Pool Party!

Made for the Paperhouse Games Cake Jam during April 6-7, 2024, this boardgame was made in collaboration with a 5yr old allowing it to capture the essence of fun over everything else.

Many cakes from the Woman's Weekly Cake Magazine were used in this board game and all of them were chosen by our 5yr old collaborator who also designed the board layouts.
Awesome Black designed the simple game mechanics, using inspiration from Mario Party, to keep the game lighthearted and fun, inline with the age bracket of expected players (Ages 3 - 10).

3 files are uploaded:

1. Awesome Black Cake Jam Board Game Main.pdf - This is a collection of the boards the players will play on, the tokens for them to represent themselves as, the rules, the score and additional game elements.

2. Awesome Black Cake Jam Board Game Cards.pdf - These are the cards that can be drawn throughout the game when a players lands on the duck cake location.  There is one duck cake front and 6 different backs with various outcomes.  Each back should be glued to a front and you should play with at least 4 copies of each card in the deck.

3. Awesome Black Cake Jam Board Game Built.jpg - This is what the game looks like when it is constructed together (also included in screenshots).

The simplified rules for the game are:

1. Select a token and start at the beginning (Start Here).

2. Roll a D6 to determine how far you move.

3. You can land on a Heart (nothing occurs), A pile of smarties (you gain 1 smartie) or the duck cake (you draw from the duck cake card deck).

4. If you draw a card from the duck cake deck you follow the instructions on the card.

5. The game ends when everyone has made it to the Pool Party.  There are bonus smarties awarded based on the order of your arrival at the pool party.

6. At the end, you total up your score and whoever has the highest amount of smarties wins :)
